CHAPTER 10 Vasculitis
نویسنده
چکیده
High index of clinical suspicion of vasculitis should be in the mind of practicing physician when he encounters a patient with unexplained ischemia or multiple organ involvement in the form of arthritis, palpable purpura, glomerlonephritis or multiple mononeuropathy. When systemic vasculitis is suspected the first step is to exclude other processes such as connective tissue disorders (RA, SLE, etc.), infection (Bact. Endocarditis, viral, fungal, etc.), malignancy, drug reactions (Table-3). If primary vasculitis is clinically diagnosed then try to classify the disorder on the basis of the size of the vessels involved into large medium or small vessel vasculitis (Table-1). After determining the size of major vessels involved other issues that contribute to the classification include:

Treatment of Different Types of Vasculitis
Vasculitis is classified by the size of the blood vessels affected by inflammatory reactions. In vasculitis of skin, many patients show obvious purpura and ulceration. Because many vasculitides can be noticed by these skin manifestations, dermatologists should be well informed about vasculitis. It is difficult to manage vasculitis after the diagnosis has been performed, and it is particularly d...

متن کاملDrug-Induced Vasculitis
This chapter aims to draw attention to the features that distinguish drug-induced vasculitis from those of idiopathic autoimmune syndromes, first and foremost primary vasculitides. Development of a systemic drug-induced syndrome only develops in a minority of patients treated with a drug over a prolonged period of time, whereas cutaneous vasculitis occurs quite commonly. The most frequent sympt...
متن کاملTreatment of ANCA-Associated Vasculitis in Adults
Vasculitis is the general term used to describe diseases associated with inflammation of the blood vessels. This inflammation results in end-organ ischemia and damage with lifethreatening consequences. Treatment is tailored to the type of vasculitis the patient has, prognostic features and disease severity. Two main treatment phases are recognized: induction of remission, and maintenance of rem...
متن کاملVasculitis and Vasculopathy in Rheumatic Diseases
Vessels and the vascular endothelium are involved in the pathogenesis of inflammatory rheumatic diseases a family of related disorders that include rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and systemic sclerosis (SSc). In these conditions vascular involvement is very important. This chapter aims to give an overview of the prevalence of the different forms of vasculopathy/va...
